Until recently, Laser Diodes have been most commonly used as drivers (pumps) for powering nd:YAG lasers. However, recent increases in power, capability, and packaging options are making them a good alternative for a number of applications. They operate from the visable spectrum to the near infrared. Typical power frequencies include 808 to 830 nm and 920-950 nm. One of their primary benefits is far greater power efficiency (10 to 20 times). Their light is also relatively easily transmitted with fiber optics. Application examples include:
Welding thin plastic materials (direct heating)
Welding of thick plastics (e.g., acrylic or polycarbonate)
with a liquid welding medium
Marking (on wood, certain metals, and certain plastics)
Cutting (various plastics, cloth)
Aim Controls now offers a complete diode laser system including
the diode laser mounted on a heat dissipating unit, a lensing
unit to focus the light into a beam from 2 to 5 mm (typical
other spot sizes available), cooling system, computer
controlled power supply and PC based control software that
controls the laser operation and that can coordinate with
X, Y motion control systems. These system have everything
ready to go.
For example, a 72 watt (delivered power), 3mm spot size,
diode laser complete system is only $17,995 complete. Other
powers and spot sizes are competively priced.
Not only does Aim make and sell the complete system, but
it can do all of the process engineering to integrate the
diode laser system onto your production equipment or machinery.
