Aim Controls
is pleased to offer the EQ-4 fork mount.
It can be operated in equatorial or Alt/AZ mode and
handle up to 20" Schmidt-Cassegrain tube assemblies
with true precision. The mount is made from
precision machined aluminum that is given a hard anodized,
black finish. The RA (or AZ) portion has a 10,000
lbs. bearing assembly. [This assembly may be purchased
separately.] The fork arms (DEC or ALT) are made
to order for different size OTAs, and popular sizes
will become standard inventory items. The fork
arms are assembled using the most advanced technology
to achieve extroardinary accuracy in alignment, orthogonality,
and strength. Flexure is eliminated for practical
purposes. Each axis has a 9 inch AGMA
12 "AA" precision grade worm gear with spring loaded
stainless steel worm assemblies. These are the
finest worm gears available and are made by Aim Controls
with its proprietary gear cutting process.Check
the photographs under "PEC" and "Precision Tracking"
(home page) to see just
how good these gears are. Both RA and DEC
axes use 60mm solid steel shafts Ra uses 60mm tapered
roller bearings while DEC uses 60mm ball bearing assemblies.
This mount can handle hundreds of pounds of weight.
The DEC arms can be removed for shipping or carrying.
The weight of the arms varies based on configuration,
but 15 to 70 pounds is typical. The approximate weight
of the RA portion is 35 pounds. Contact
Aim Controls for pricing, delivery, and for the fork
and cradle size for a particular optical assembly.
